The “Sunday Night Baseball” affair was Scottish Heritage Night at the ballpark as Scotland plays its first two games of the 2026 World Cup group stage in nearby Foxborough, Massachusetts.
The Scots, many donning the Red Sox soccer jersey giveaway, didn’t let their confusion of what was happening on the field dilute their excitement. They treated the game like a soccer match by standing throughout, chanting — “No Scotland, No Party” the most popular refrain — and singing. It was a baseball environment unlike any other.
But the real party commenced after the final pitch underneath the grandstands in right field. Scottish supporters sang a tune honoring goal-scorer John McGinn.
“We’ve got McGinn! Super John McGinn!
“I just don’t think you understand!
“He’s Unai Emery’s man. He’s better than Zidane.
“We’ve got Super John McGinn!”
Over the weekend, the Scots took over Boston Common before their squad defeated Haiti 1-0 on Saturday, June 13. The team’s next World Cup game is Friday against Morocco, again in Foxborough.
